Struggles

Charles White There were no crops that year

Charles White, There Were No Crops That Year (1940) Private Collection, Philadelphia

What can we do for them?

What can we do for the hungry

the homeless

those in need?

What can we do?

Lord, have mercy.

What can we do for them?

What can we do for the sad

the downhearted

those in despair?

What can we do?

Christ, have mercy.

What can we do for them?

What can we do for the exhausted

the weary

those at the end of their tether?

What can we do?

Lord, have mercy.

This Lent,

what can we do?

Deny ourselves

give alms

clothe those who need it

care for the sick

visit the prisoner

invite the stranger in.

Have mercy.
